MR WCS Vegas West Coast Swing community leader in Las Vegas spreading the news about the WCS Community.

The Ambassador

Serving as an ambassador within and outside the West Coast Swing community has taught me that representation matters. Dancers often take cues from experienced members on behavior, tone, and values, whether they realize it or not. You can’t control what others say or the hearsay they rely on to form opinions, and you won’t satisfy everyone. I learned early on that allowing my conduct on and off the floor to speak for itself is the most effective way to shape the environment around me.

As an ambassador, I worked on the staff of “Desert Sands Dance Festival”, “Sam’s Town Dance Hall”, “Rhythmic Soles Dance Studio”, “Famous Friday Dance”, and “West Coast Swing Vegas”. I focus on inclusion, respect, and encouragement. I make a point to dance with newcomers, welcome unfamiliar faces, and create space where people feel seen and valued. Small actions eye contact, a smile, a genuine invitation to dance can determine whether someone feels they belong.

Traveling and participating in diverse dance environments broadened my perspective. Each community has its own culture, and being adaptable allowed me to connect authentically without imposing expectations. Observing how different scenes foster growth informed how I contribute when I return home.

I also learned that ambassadorship involves…

I also learned that ambassadorship involves setting boundaries and maintaining standards. Respectful behavior, consent, and clear communication are essential for safe and enjoyable spaces. Addressing issues when they arise, rather than avoiding discomfort, protects the integrity of the community.

Mentorship naturally emerged from this role. Dancers often approached me with questions about etiquette, progress, and navigating social dynamics. Because I had navigated similar challenges, I could offer guidance grounded in empathy rather than theory. My experience as an ambassador reinforces that technical skill alone does not sustain a community. Trust, kindness, and leadership do. I mentor dancers to understand that how they show up matters and that positive influence is built through consistency and care.
