MR WCS Vegas West Coast Swing community leader in Las Vegas showing his dance skills.

The Instructor

My transition from dancer to instructor was a natural extension of being a committed student. Continuing to learn keeps me closely connected to what students actually need at each stage of their journey. I understand confusion, frustration, and breakthrough because I experience them myself. That awareness informs how I teach.

One of the most important realizations in my teaching philosophy came when I recognized that much of my earlier learning had been inefficient. I spent years focusing on accumulating moves without fully understanding the fundamentals that make West Coast Swing work. The teachings of Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollmann were instrumental in shifting my perspective toward movement, connection, and musical interpretation. Fundamentals became the foundation rather than an afterthought.

When I teach, I prioritize clarity, connection, and adaptability. I recognize that dancers learn differently and arrive with different goals. Some want social confidence, others competition readiness, and others long-term technical growth. Because West Coast Swing evolves with modern music, instructors must continue adapting techniques to reflect current sounds and movement trends.

Feedback confirming my effectiveness…

Feedback confirming my effectiveness often appears in long-term results rather than immediate praise. By tracking archived competition footage and observing how dancers adapt as music evolves, I see how strong fundamentals allow for stylistic growth. Students who understand movement principles are better equipped to respond creatively to new music.

Mentorship differs from group classes because it allows for intentional, individualized guidance. I create lesson plans tailored to each dancer’s needs, focusing time on problem areas instead of repeating generalized material. Dancers who work with me come to understand that knowing fewer moves well creates more freedom, confidence, and enjoyment than knowing many moves poorly. My teaching is intentional, adaptive, and rooted in care.
