Serving as an ambassador within and outside the West Coast Swing community has taught me that representation matters. Dancers often take cues from experienced members on behavior, tone, and values, whether they realize it or not. The Media Marketer

The Student
I have always understood that being a strong dancer requires first being a committed student. My early influences included Dave Getty and Mike Haley, both members of the UCWDC Hall of Fame. The WCS DJ
Becoming a West Coast Swing DJ deepened my understanding of music in ways that transformed both my dancing and my teaching. As a DJ, I began to hear music structurally, recognizing phrasing, downbeats, rhythm layers, and how energy builds and releases over time. Music provides the framework for interaction between partners, and DJ-ing sharpened my awareness of how dancers respond to that framework.

The Instructor
My transition from dancer to instructor was a natural extension of being a committed student. Continuing to learn keeps me closely connected to what students actually need at each stage of their journey. I understand confusion, frustration, and breakthrough because I experience them myself. That awareness informs how I teach.
